“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”
—2Corinthians 10:5
First, you need to RECOGNIZE these clutters
You see, discovery or awareness is the first step in the right direction towards complete recovery. Mental and emotional clutters often subtle, obscure, and hidden unconsciously in ignorance, under the shadow of apparently harmless but limiting thoughts.
Sometimes, it may be challenging to recognize that you are experiencing mental and emotional Clutters. Therefore, you need to:
- Ask the Lord to expose the mental and emotional strongholds on your mind
- Take time to reflect on what you are thinking on
- Meticulously write down your thoughts and express your feelings in a journal or even a piece of paper (especially ideas that seem to clog your mind persistently) for isolation for improved clarity
- After you have attempted to recognize, isolate, and clarify clutters (unhealthy feelings and thoughts) in your mind, you need to learn how to stop them before they gain control over you. To do this, you need to:Ask for the help of the Holy Spirit
- Challenge and question your clutters. Do not suppress your feelings—feel your feeling, ask your feelings what is needed, then release them by the power of the Holy Spirit
- Use a positive confession, declaration or affirmation.
- Finally, you need to CHOOSE what you think intentionally
There is an inherent ability in everyone; it is called choice. The power to choose makes us accountable and responsible for the outcomes of our lives.
Our experience in life is a product of the total of our everyday choices, be them little or great. Think about this! A vehicle driver has discovered that he or she is on the wrong road to an undesired destination, and he or she has decided to stop the vehicle. The next logical thing to do is to choose the right course and begin to move towards it until he or she is entirely on the right track to his or her desired destination.
Moreover, God often empowers us to make the right choices after we have made up our minds to go in the right direction towards a destination that conforms to the destiny God has planned for each one of us.
Regarding the eliminating of mental and emotional clutters, the place of personal choice often sets the pace for our eventual experience. We can’t think right if we remain passive and indifferent. We must gladly choose our thought. Spiritual clutters will affect communion, intimacy, and interaction with God and spiritual things.
